Record Store Day

April 19th, 2008, is Record Store Day!!

All lovers of retail music (not this digital download iTunes crap) are encouraged to go out and support your LOCAL record store. We're not talking Best Buy and FYE, people--those stores have enough support--but actual mom and pop record stores, the places you'd go with a few of your friends to dig through the bins for hours to find that rare CD that no big corporate store would ever bother to carry.

We're all aware that, in recent times, the music industry has become deeply effected by the impact of the internet and the ability for people to buy/steal music digitally instead of going out and buying a hard copy of the CD. This has hit local stores the hardest, and more and more we're seeing shops run by people who actually CARE about music go out of business.

Record Store Day honors the hard work of music lovers like us; individuals who work hard to bring us actual CDs instead of just digital copies of it to make cash. Check out the website, and on April 19th y'all are encouraged to go to your local store and pick up a copy of your favorite CD to support the cause and show that the work of shopowners is not going unnoticed.

ReadNex Poetry Squad

Photobucket

Any student at SUNY New Paltz can tell you who they are, but this is a group of four socially minded hip-hop poets (and a DJ) who deserve to go farther than the Catskill region.

The ReadNex Poetry Squad makes intelligent hip-hop without the gangsta undertones we find on the radio today. Blending slam poetry with slick rhymes, they bring to light race and street issues without ever mentioning killing cops (which is good, becuase that has a tendency to polarize the audience). Check out their first full-length, Social ISsUe at cdbaby.com.

A note.

Sububrban Vibe has been started as a means to expose independent artists, musicians, and poets who are not plastered everywhere by the main stream media. We hope you enjoy.
